WHAT’S ALL THIS ABOUT THE OZONE LAYER?
The ozone layer is a shield up in the stratosphere that protects life on Earth from the sun's ultraviolet rays. In 1985, British scientists discovered a thinning in the ozone that allows increased levels of UV rays to reach the Earth’s surface. This contributes to accelerated global warming and climate change in addition to the hazard created by exposure to these powerful rays. What causes this thinning or “hole” in the ozone? Nobody knows for sure; but we do know that high levels of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and other related carbons in Earth’s atmosphere (also called “greenhouse gases”) are key contributors to the problem.
Duct tape alone won’t fix the ozone, so make sure you limit your time in the sun (use sunscreen with SPF15 or higher) and most importantly, do what you can to reduce your carbon footprint! You can and DO make a difference every day, so makes sure it’s the kind of difference you really want to make!
